Explanation of the project

The goal of this project was to make an ergonomic analysis of the coffee maker Rowenta Prelude Timer to define all the problems the user could have by using this coffee maker. We then had to improve the coffee maker by fixing the problems by designing a new coffee maker.

The first step of this project was to compare our coffee maker with other coffee makers we can find on the market. This step allowed us to see the differences between these coffee makers and to be able to define the place of the coffee maker Rowenta Prelude Timer on the market.

To realize our ergonomic analysis of the coffee maker, we started by realizing a task analysis. We also made a survey to understand what the user is expecting from his coffee maker and how the user uses it.

The next step was to create a use senario and to ask some people from different sexe, ages, sizes... to realize this senario with the coffee maker. Then we asked them several questions to understand the different kind of problem they got by using it. We also filmed it to be able to watch again how they used it and to be able to study the video with the hardware Captiv L2100.

We also realized an anthropometric analysis of the coffee maker Rowenta Prelude Timer to study if the position of the user when he is using the coffee maker is a confortable position or if he riskes to have some musculoskeletal disorders.

The next step was to make a thermic and acoustic analysis of the product.

After doing all these analysis we were able to create the specifications for the new coffee maker. Then we each realized a pre-concept of the new coffee maker. We decided to create 2 type of concept: one would be for users older than 30 (because we realized during our ergonomic study that people under 30 and over 30 do not have the same use of a coffee maker). And the other pre-concept picked would be users under 30.

Two of us had to realize a concept for users under 30 and 2 of us for users over 30. At the end we chose 1 of each pre-concept.

I realized my pre-concept for users under 30. We picked my pre-concept for the final concept for users under 30 but we decided to had some modifications to create a coffee maker even beter for these users. We decided to add a removable tray (like in the pre-concept of Loïc Masticard) to be able to make a single coffee easier. And we also added a measuring spoon for the coffee.
