As part of my studies at the UTBM (University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard) I had the opportunity to do my 6-month end-of-studies internship at Dacor.
During my internship I was working as an industrial designer in the department of Product development under the supervision of M. David Nichols (Director of the department of Product development).
I had the oppotunity to work on several projects at the same time, which allowed me to work with the mechanical engineering team and the programming team.
My main project was to design the graphics and user interface of the LCD screen they wanted to include to their ovens. I had to describe the flow of the screens and make sure that it would be easy to use for the user and I had to define the look of each screen to have something that would fit the brand of Dacor.
I had to use my knowledges in ergonomics and design, and I mainly used the software Photoshop for this project.
This project allowed to gain experience in UI Design.
During my internship I also improved the graphics and user interface of the touching screen controller (iQ controller) which is on some of their ovens.
Some screens were very hard to read because of a contrast problem so I found solutions to improve that.
I also had the opportunity to work with the mechanical engineering team to design a range hood that would have to match the style of their Discovery ranges.
I studied the style, and used some specific parts of the range to fit the style. I created several sketches and then I used Solidworks to create the 3D model of the best ones to be able to have a better view of the product.
I also designed an induction cooktop. The goal was to design some graphics that would be on the cooktop which would help to hide scratches. For this project I mainly used Photoshop and also realized some sketches.
